RULE CHANGE RETRACTION: A-Class and A-Class Non-Wing

TULSA, Okla. (September 15, 2017) Sometimes is racing, there are bad calls, and the Tulsa Shootout would like to address a recent change in the rules pertaining to the fuel delivery systems that will be legal for the 33rd annual Speedway Motors Tulsa Shootout, happening December 28, 2017 through December 31, 2017.

All changes in regards to the Injection rules for A-Class and A-Class Non-Wing have been retracted and the previous rules have been reinstated.

Changes to the Restricted A-Class will remain in place.

“My phone has not stopped ringing, and after fielding what seems like countless phone calls of teams concerned about our previously announced rule change, we have no choice but to retract the changes and make our previous engine rules stand. We apologize for any confusion and concern that this has caused,” stated Tulsa Shootout Competition Director, Matt Ward.

A-Class engine rules for Winged and Non-Wing read as follows.

Stock 600cc (Winged and Non-Winged)

12 Year Minimum Age
• Any 600cc OEM CV Carbs - No Flat Sides
• Wings: 10 square ft. max, left sideboard 24” x 48”, right sideboard 18” x 48”, nose wing 18”x 24” max
• ASCS2 Right Rear Tire
• No cockpit adjustments
• Electronic fuel injection allowed, no mechanical injection. Must be stock throttle body. No mixing.
• Weight Rule: A Class Micro Sprint 750 lbs., including driver, at the conclusion of the race.
• Loss of any bolt-on weight during competition will disqualify the individual from that event.

Additional Engine Specs

• Engine 600cc 4 cylinder 4 stroke as comes on a stock production bike for public sale in the U.S.A. No current year production engines.
• Except as noted, all internal and external engine parts must remain stock with no modifications, metal removal, blueprinting.
• Valve seat inserts may be reworked. Valve springs may be shimmed with standard or aftermarket shims.
• Cylinder head combustion chambers may be cleaned by bead blasting with valves seated in place.
• Cylinder head gaskets may be replaced only with original equipment manufacturer’s stock parts (All 3 layers of the head gasket must be used). All other gaskets may be replaced with duplicate aftermarket parts.
• Light cleaning of gasket surfaces with steel wool, Scotch-Brite, etc. is allowed.
• Transmission gears may be shimmed only for the purpose of proper engagement. Standard or aftermarket shims may be utilized.
• Aftermarket cam chain tensioner allowed for safety of motor.
• Fuel injection engines may run carburetors. Injected with power commander allowed gas or alcohol. No timing modules allowed. Fuel injection engines running carburetors may change all fuel metering devices to tune fuel curve, Billet intake boots allowed.
• Modification of oil pan & pick up allow allowed or aftermarket ok.
• Modification to thermostat cover allowed or aftermarket ok.
• Modification to water pump cover allowed or aftermarket ok.
• Any air box, stock appearing CDI, aftermarket washable replacement air filter, power commander on fuel injection models only.
• Any 600cc OEM CV carburetors (no flat slides allowed).
• Fuel cell securely mounted. Tank used for qualifying heats must remain for all events.
• No flammable liquids allowed in cooling systems.

It will remain, that in all classes, tire samples will be taken and sent to be tested. Any doping of tires is illegal and will result in the disqualification and forfeiture of all purse money. The 33rd Speedway Motors Tulsa Shootout takes place at the Tulsa Expo Raceway, located inside the River Spirit Expo Center. The opening day of racing on Thursday, December 28 will start at 9:00 A.M. with Practice for classes, followed by Heat Races that evening. Start time is tentative for 5:00 P.M. and can change depending on how long it takes to run all teams through their hot lap sessions.

The 33rd edition of the Speedway Motors Tulsa Shootout will feature A-Class (Wing, Non-Wing, and Restricted), Outlaw (Wing and Non-Wing) ECOtec Midgets, Winged 1200cc Mini Sprints, and Junior Sprints for a total of eight divisions.

Early entries for the 33rd Speedway Motors Tulsa Shootout will begin on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, with entries taken online, by phone, or by fax. Entries will not be accepted via email or social media. Cost is $100 per class. The deadline for the discounted entry fee is Wednesday, December 6, 2017. After that, entries will go up to $120 and will be cut off on Tuesday, December 19, 2017. Anyone wanting to enter after that must do so during move in on December 27, 2017.

At the same time early entries open, the list for early parking will also open. Teams who were on the list for the 2017 Shootout will have first option to renew their spots and must do so by November 30, 2017. After that, remaining spots will be made available. Early parking does not guarantee that a team can bring their trailer into the River Spirit Expo Center. For trailers that are brought in, there must be two cars per every 10 feet of trailer
