Muenster Masters Modifieds, Wenzel Wins One
Luxemburg,WI,6/8/18—In the racing world it’s an impressive feat to win two races in a row, but to do it on back to back nights on two distinctly different surfaces is something rarely seen anymore. Eddie Muenster pulled it off though, scoring a Late Model division win on the pavement Thursday night and following it up with his first IMCA Modified win of the season on the next night. Brett Wenzel nearly equaled Muenster’s accomplishment. He finished third to Muenster on the pavement on Thursday and then won his first career IMCA Stock Car feature at the Luxemburg Speedway. Sawyer Haese, Jesse Krahn, and TJ Everard also secured feature wins on the racy third mile oval.
The IMCA Modified feature saw Chase Parker lead early on with Eddie Muenster and Brian Mullen hot on his heels. Parker did his best to keep the veterans at bay, but Muenster would eventually find his way past Parker for the lead. Mullen would do likewise and begin to pester Muenster for the top spot. As Parker began to fade, Shawn Kilgore and Mike Mullen came from deep in the field to join the top four. At the end Muenster held off Mullen for the win followed by twelfth starting Kilgore, and thirteenth starting Mike Mullen. Chase Parker held on for a strong fifth place finish in the caution-free affair.
Dan Sell Jr. held the early advantage in the IMCA Stock Car feature race while receiving constant pressure from Brett Wenzel. Wenzel though, worked underneath Sell to take the lead a few laps into the race. Near the end of the race Travis VanStraten began to pressure Wenzel. VanStraten pulled even with Wenzel multiple times over the closing laps, but Wenzel would not relinquish his lead. Wenzel held on for the win over VanStraten. Barry VanStraten came from tenth to finish third. Shawn Havel advanced from sixteenth to take fourth. Dan Michonski grabbed fifth.
Sawyer Haese survived a late race charge by Todd Wiese to win the IMCA Sport Mod feature. Haese went wire to wire for the win. Wiese, Troy DeGrave, Chris Budzban, and Ryan LeMieux rounded out the top five.
Ford Malvitz led lap one of the Street Stock feature before Chad Naze asserted himself as the leader of the race. As Naze led the way Jesse Krahn and Dave DeGrave began working their way through the field toward the front. Krahn took the outside line to pass Naze for the lead. DeGrave followed Krahn around Naze to move to second. For the duration of the race Krahn and DeGrave battled for the lead. Numerous times the duo raced side by side. In the end it was Krahn scoring the win. DeGrave had to settle for second. Lexi Ashcraft came from ninth on the starting grid to finish third. Kevin Hebbe and Dan Van Pay completed the top five.
TJ Everard was dominant in Sport Compact action. Everard led every lap of the race. Anthony Fletcher, DJ Jorgenson, Tony Everard, and Nick Everard rounded out the top five.
Racing will continue next Friday night with the John Pagel/Steve Witcpalek Memorial and Gnome Games night at the races. Gnome Games will also sponsor Big Wheel racing for the kids at intermission. Racing Starts at 7:00. Visit the track’s website at www.luxemburgspeedway.com for updates and more information, or follow the Speedway’s most current postings via your favorite social media source.
