Hunter Fischer

Inaugural Voyage at Red Dirt Raceway

The POWRi West midgets kicked off a 2-day show at the Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker, OK on Friday. Fischer Racing initiated their new Flying Tee Golf sponsored BOSS chassis for its maiden voyage on the ¼ mile red dirt track. With only 2 weeks to assemble all of the minor details required to make one of these speed machines make the circuits, it was a challenge for the 2-man crew, to say the least. Steve Gran was enlisted for technical assistance and Eric Fenton provided some long-lead items to ensure we made it to the track.

To kick off the heat race, Hunter started the #24 on the pole of the 2nd heat race. Nothing like breaking in a new car from the front of the pack! The track started drying out and the car was setup way too loose. About midway, Hunter looped the car between turns 1 & 2, bringing out a yellow and restarting at the tail. Fighting to get a handle on the car, a 7th place finish would qualify the team to start P21 in the A feature.

With the track quickly turning to dust, our guest crew chief Steve made some major adjustments to bring the Flying Tee Golf midget under control. Starting on the inside of the 11th row, Hunter had 25 laps to move forward. The car and driver seemed to bond very well and started moving forward. By the first caution, we advanced a row to 19th place. The next caution put us in 15th. Grabbing the high line by the wall, our pilot marched up to the 9th spot in a 3-way battle for 7th. On the final lap, a brake pad separated and caused Hunter to sail over the berm in turn 1. Luckily, this track had a runoff area behind turn 1 & 2, allowing him to rejoin the race without initiating a caution. Staying in the gas, Hunter brought the car across the line in 11th place, gaining 10 positions overall (most of all competitors this night).

Special thanks goes to Steve Gran for making it out to the track and wrenching on the car all night! He made the right adjustments and made it possible for the team to be competitive in the feature race. Many thanks to Eric Fenton for not only promoting the POWRi West series, but also for supporting the success of his race teams with knowledge, support, and parts to make a race. Only through his help were we able to hit the track this weekend! Be sure to follow Flying Tee Golf on the Riverwalk in Jenks and B&C Custom Woodworks on Facebook for their latest specials.
