Dylan Smith Wins 2nd Annual "Stay in Kenora 100" Sled Enduro, Doer Wins Twins

Lake of the Woods Speedway hosted the 2nd Annual "Stay in Kenora 100" Single Cylinder Enduro on Sunday, February 17.

A total of eleven (11) entries attended the event. With more than double the amount of participants from last year, fans knew this race was going to be full of action across the spectrum. A couple hundred children and adults watched the excitement throughout the 100 laps.

The race had a rolling start with #007 Davy Doer on the pole. To the outside of him, was last year's reigning champion, #17 Christopher Leek. After a wave to the crowd, the larger field of drivers hit the throttle for the first of many tough laps ahead. The early battle had the new entry of Dylan Smith in his 250cc Enticer against last year's third place finisher, #13C Don Rogers.

On lap 8, a spin and stall in turn four led to the first caution with the resulting sled having to get repairs to come back out. The sleds lined back up and were on their way again with Smith and Rogers starting on the front row.

Around lap 22, the #2T of Rob Jones had engine issues and had to pull off. He was unable to return to the race.

After another restart, the #13C challenged for the lead. He lead a lap, but fell back behind again. He was able to do it once more, but no one was able to challenge the #71 of Dylan Smith throughout the majority of the race.

The next driver to retire early was the #11 of Marc Berchard. Engine problems led him to be towed off as well.

The track started to rough up significantly by lap 40 and the sleds were having a new wave of issues fighting for position and to keep themselves, and the sleds in one piece.

After a discussion on lap 64 during a stoppage due to another stalled sled, the drivers felt that even with the rough track that they wanted to do all 100 laps.

Drivers continued to fight for position but it was Dylan Smith that reigned as 2019 champion over the 2018 champ Christopher Leek who finished second. First time racer in the event, #63 Mike Olson finished third with his citation after having sled issues early in the race.

After trophy presentations, all three drivers had a chance to speak to the crowd. They had a ton of fun and encouraged others to get a sled and come out next year to hopefully max out the field of 20!

In the Vintage Twin Shooutout, #007 Davy Doer crossed the finish line first with #13C Don Rogers off his sled in turn three. Rogers was about fifty feet behind the leader for most of the race, but with one lap to go, Rogers gunned it to the outside to make it side by side into the corner. Unfortunately, he hit a bump and flew off his machine. He was okay, but it forced him to concede the win to Doer.

Thank you to everyone that helped make the www.stayinkenora.com 100 another amazing success! We hope for more drivers and an even larger event next year!
