DUBUQUE, IA (June 2) – The track came to him.

That is what Jaden Fryer wanted Sunday evening at Dubuque Speedway.

The Freeport, Ill. pilot shot from the outside front row and held off track champion Bryce Garnhart and NASCAR and dirt legend Ken Schrader to win the Merfeld Brothers Automotive IMCA Modified 20-lap feature.

“This was really special,” Fryer said in C&W Trucking/Hoker Trucking/Kam Koncepts Victory Lane. “It was fun getting the win and we worked hard.”

Fryer and his team dedicated the win to a friend recently lost to cancer and had the car wrapped in her memory.

Schrader made the main by a second place finish in the B-Main and quickly picked off competitors after starting 14th on K Motorsports Night.

Garnhart shot off seventh and quickly moved to the high side, but could not run down Fryer.

Chris Zogg and Matt Short rounded out the top five.

Luke Merfeld took off from the first row and paced all 25 laps to win the Eichmann’s Bar and Grill IMCA Late Model feature.

After an early battle with brother Jon, Merfeld launched after a late restart to beat Joel Callahan, Jeremiah Hurst, Eric Pollard and Jeff Tharp.

The latter Merfeld brought out that late caution and finished seventh.

Jason Roth also paced every lap of the Peosta Warehousing Logistics IMCA SportMod 15-lap finale. Jerry Miles, Justin Becker, Austin Heacock and Rusty Deshaw came next.

Becker started eighth and moved to the top three early.

Kyle Merkes held off the previously unbeaten Cole Mather to take the 12-lap K Motorspors IMCA Stock Car feature. Matt Hudspeth, Chase Zaruba and Reece Norton followed.

Daniel Wauters won the battle with Dakota Simonsen to top the Kinsella Concrete IMCA Hobby Stock 15-lapper. Daryl Moss, Shane Oberbreckling and Justin Morhardt completed the top five.

Mitch Bielenberg finished off his 4 Cylinder weekend sweep with the 12-lap victory. He won the previous night at Maquoketa Speedway. Cameron Poci was within view, but could not close the gap at the end. Dustin Forbes, Thomas Adams and Jacob Welter followed.

A total of 76 race teams hit the track and the final checkered flag fell before 9:30 p.m.

Action continues on the 3/8-mile, dirt oval this Sunday June 9 with the Smokey Rupp Memorial, featuring the Merfeld Brothers Automotive IMCA Modifieds racing for $1,000 to win.

Also hitting the track will be Eichman’s Bar and Grill IMCA Late Models, Peosta Warehousing Logistics IMCA SportMods, K Motorports IMCA Stock Cars, Kinsella Concrete IMCA Hobby Stocks and 4 Cylinders.

Gates open at 3:30 p.m. Hot laps are 5:30 with racing at 6 p.m.
