They All Have Four Wheels...
(New Braunfels, TX) Chris Coker moved his The Oil Medics, Rod End Supply, Sander Engineering, Maust Racing Fuel, Driver Websites, Triple X up five spots (12th to 7th) in the ASCS Gulf South standings this weekend despite having a weekend the team considered a let down. After drawing 29 and 32 out of 35 the two nights, Coker was relegated to the B mains each, and raced his way into the feature both times. After starting 18th Friday at the Golden Triangle Raceway, Coker was only able to work his way to 12th. Saturday Coker started 24th at the Royal Purple Raceway Park and was close to moving into the top 10 when the engine overheated with 10 laps remaining, stranding Coker pitside for the remainder of the event.
Coker, disappointed but at ease, provided these comments. "With the economy the way it is, anytime we can show up, unload, make the feature, then roll it back in the trailer, we have to take it. But nothing will ever change the fact that I want to win, and anything outside the top 10 is a disappointed at this point." As mentioned, Coker was able to make up ground in the points race despite the poor results... "It just goes to show how difficult the Gulf South Region is. This is the first time we didn't have National Tour guys with us, so they got shifted down in the points. But we still have guys like Rilat and Dupey showing up and 30-35 good cars, so if you make the show and move forward every night, theres a good chance you'll position yourself well in the points" shared Chris.
Next week the Chris Coker Racing Team will transition their focus to USAC as the Mopar National Midget Series gets under way in Dodge City, KA. When asked about his reasoning for racing midgets Chris said "Winged, Non-Winged, Midget, they all have four wheels, and they're all fun to drive. The midget is a real passion for me. It was the first thing with any power I drove, back when I was about 14 or 15. We wanted to head up to Dodge because we've heard so much about the facility and we want to run the Midget more. Then the opportunity came up to team with JBM Motorsports for the weekend, who will have Gary Taylor driving. So it's just a way to have a lot of fun and gain a lot of experience all at the same time. I'm trying to put a deal together for Indiana Midget Week later in the summer, so this weekend may show where we stand for that."
