2011 Kicks-Off with "Hoosier 100"

On Friday May 27th, Team 6R Racing kicked-off the 2011 USAC Silver Crown season with the "Hoosier 100" at the Indy State Fairgrounds. The Powered by Toyota team took to the One-Mile dirt track with drivers Brian Tyler and Tanner Swanson (#21 & #23), while driver Kody Swanson sat out with injuries sustained in the May 21st "Hut 100."

Brian Tyler, the team's veteran driver, entered the event 2nd on the All-Time Silver Crown winner's list and looking for his 1st Hoosier 100 victory. Tanner Swanson, entering his Sophomore Silver Crown season, was looking to start the first Hoosier 100 feature of his young career.

The duo qualified 11th and 15th in the 31-car field, and set out for the 100-mile event. With his veteran experience and style, Brian Tyler took advantage of the initial start, and moved into the top 10 in the first lap. As the first part of the race played out, drivers and teams knew that a mandatory stop on lap 50 would provide a chance for all to regroup. In that first 50 laps, Tanner Swanson had his #23 from 15th back to to 22nd, and back up to around 15th. Meanwhile, Brian Tyler consistently moved up the running order, and found himself about the 8th spot at half-way.

When the race resumed for the final 50-miles, both Team 6R drivers continued their march toward the front. Brian Tyler moved into the 7th position, while Tanner continued his way toward the top 12. As the race wound down, both drivers fought until the end, with Brian cracking into the Top 5 with just a few laps to go, and Tanner passing into the 8th position coming to the checkered flags!

With a tricky season-opener at the Indy Mile's "Hoosier 100," both drivers did well with Brian finshing in the Top 5, and Tanner in the Top 10. Team 6R Racing will continue their pursuit of the USAC Silver Crown Championship when the series resumes in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 17th.
