Scotty Thiel
Thiel Wrecks At Manitowoc
Friday night, July 22nd, Scotty Thiel and the #64 STM Sprint Car made the trip to the Manitowoc County Speedway. Thiel started and finsihed 4th in the heat race event and would allow him to start on the pole of the night's 30 lap A-Main event.
Taking the green for A-main, Scotty jumped out to the early lead. He would lead for the first 23 laps and get passed by the #35 of Ben Schmidt. Thiel would gain the lead back a few laps after, but then a caution came out, giving the lead back to Schmidt on the restart. With only 4 laps to go, it was a dash to the finish. Scotty was battling for the 2nd position and coming for the white flag, he got hit and took a violent ride down the front stretch. The car landed on all four wheels, and Thiel got out of the car on his own power. The track scored Thiel finishing 12th for the night.
The team was suppose to make the 7 hour haul to Brainerd, Minnesota to race at the 19th Annual Kouba Memorial on Saturday but they spent the day taking the car apart. The frame is junk along with most of the bolt on components. The Kouba race did end up getting postponed due to rain.
It's unknown if the team will return to racing action this coming weekend. Keep up to date at www.scottythiel.com for more information.
