Coos Bay Roars Back To Action For South Coast Shopper Night

After an exciting season opener this past Saturday night, Coos Bay Speedway is back with another 6 division program this Saturday night featuring the America’s Mattress Super Late Models, Sportsman Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Outlaws, Hornets and Jr Stingers.

If you’re looking for affordable family fun on the coast this weekend, Coos Bay Speedway is the place to be, as Saturday’s event costs just $23 per carload, so bring the entire family out!

Last weekend, wily veteran Wayne Butler picked up his first career America’s Mattress Super Late Model victory. Butler led all 30 laps en route to the win, while there was a war of attrition waging behind him. Toledo visitor Jordan Wright had a solid 7th to 3rd run, while Gold Beach’s Richard Wallace placed 3rd. Look for local standouts like Brody Montgomery and Braden Fugate to be hot on his tail this weekend.

Another first time winner, Ryan Emry topped the Sportsman Late Models last time out. The Corvallis native has shown speed over his numerous visits to the coast the past two seasons and finally got it to victory lane. Central Point’s Jesse Merriman took 2nd, as only 2 cars in the 6 car field were able to finish the feature.

Keeping with the first time winner trend, Roseburg’s Seth Christian took home the 25 lap Street Stock feature. With the likes of Troy Chamberlain, Ken Fox, Dylan Siewell and more chomping at the bit, Christian will have a tall task if he wants to repeat as a feature winner.

Christian very nearly was a double winner this past week, if it wasn’t for Coquille’s Troy Thomas taking the Hornet feature in a close battle. Last year’s champ Isaac Stere looked strong in the season opener, and he could very well be in the mix again this Saturday night. With the Hornets always bringing a strong field, this could be one of the classes to pay close attention to this weekend.

A strong runner anywhere in the state, Buxton’s Travis Koch ran away with last week's Mini Outlaw feature. Look for strong runners like Scott Bowdwin and Matthew Emry to compete for a win this time out.

Griff Smith once again found himself atop the Jr Stinger class last weekend, leading all 16 laps of their feature. The big story however was the debut of 4 multi-generation racers. 3 of Street Stock competitor Steve Dubisar’s boys, Tallon, Tanner and Tucker all made their speedway debut, with Tallon taking the runner up spot. Also making his first start, Eli Luckman, brother of Late Model standout Preston Luckman and son of former racer Eric Luckman raced his way to a Top 5 finish.
