CDR: Podium Finish on Labor Day
While most of the country enjoyed the day off due to Labor Day, Craig Dollansky and the rest of the World of Outlaws continued their trip through the Pacific Northwest at Cottage Grove Speedway in Oregon where ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ has four top-five finishes including his best finish of a runner-up in 2008.
The night got underway with time trials as 25 cars signed into the pit area at the 1/4-mile with the Karavan Trailers Maxim stopping the clocks at 6th fastest. Heat race competition started Dollansky third but after pole sitter Kerry Madsen jumped the initial start, Dollansky took advantage of moving up a row as he darted out to the lead and won by nearly three seconds. In the 6-lap dash the Big Game Treestands #7 advanced one position to finish 3rd.
When the green flag dropped on the 40-lap A-Main Dollansky got a bad start and dropped back a couple of spots. On the second circuit ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ raced past Brad Sweet to claim fourth only to have teammate Sammy Swindell take the same spot before a caution on lap 5. On the restart Dollansky reversed the roles however as he powered back around the Big Game Treestands #1 and then used the highline to claim third from Jason Sides on lap 9. With rubber being laid down in turns 3 & 4 passing became very difficult until a caution with 5 laps to go set up one final double-file restart. Dollansky got a good jump to challenge Steve Kinser for the runner-up position on the restart but Kinser battled back as the Aggressive Hydraulics backed sprinter recorded a podium finish in 3rd.
“After the second night at Skagit we had to build a new car and these guys worked hard getting this car ready for tonight,” commented Craig. “The track was pretty racy but rubbered up ten laps into the race and made it tough to get by somebody. Great win for Kraig, my hat is off to them and their entire race team they’ve been working hard all year long and it’s great to see them get a win. This is a good run for this Big Game Treestands, Karavan Trailers, Aggressive Hydraulics, Aeroquip car. When you’re running in the top three with these group of guys it’s not easily done.”
