Florida Face-Off: Astro Titanium Sparkles in the Sunshine State
When most people think of Florida, they think of sun and beaches, but for one month a year it becomes the center of the racing world as numerous series kick-off their season there. This past weekend the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions and World of Outlaws took center stage as some of the best sprint car drivers in the world faced-off against each other. One common item that the top contenders had on-board was Astro Titanium fasteners, which was a part of two victories and seven top-five finishes at Volusia Speedway Park.
The top contender carrying Astro Titanium parts was Craig Dollansky, who won with both the All Stars and World of Outlaws. His first victory came on Thursday night on the second night of the 41st Annual UNOH DIRTcar Nationals, when he took the lead from Daryn Pittman on a Lap-9 restart and led the remainder of the 30-lapper. During the first race of the Sunday doubleheader, the Minnesota driver finished in the fifth position. Dollansky’s second victory came in the nightcap on Sunday. Starting from the outside pole, “The Crowd Pleaser” took the lead from pole sitter Donny Schatz and kept his No. 7 out front through lapped traffic.
Adding a third podium finish to the Astro Titanium resume over weekend was two-time World of Outlaws Champion Jason Meyers. Starting the World of Outlaws season-opener from the seventh position, the Californian quickly climbed through the field. On Lap-21, Meyers moved into the top-three, then tracked down Brad Sweet with six laps to go and made the pass on the bottom. The native of Clovis, Calif. cut into Danny Lasoski’s lead, but ran out of laps before the checkered flag flew.
The most consistent driver carrying Astro Titanium parts was All Star Circuit of Champions stand-out David Gravel. The Connecticut driver began his foray at Volusia with the All Stars by finishing fourth on the first night of racing action. The young gun returned on the opening night for the World of Outlaws and recorded another fourth-place finish. On the final night of racing, Gravel finished third, after a grueling day that saw the series race twice.
