David Gravel Will Sit Out West Coast Swing; Continues to Recuperate from Illness
WATERTOWN, Conn.—August 30, 2013— David Gravel will sit out the upcoming West Coast Swing for the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series, which will encompass nine races in 10 nights in Washington, Oregon and California, as he continues to recuperate from a bout of mononucleosis and a double ear infection. The 21-year-old looks to return to action with the series upon their return to the Midwest at Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa, on Friday, Sept. 13.
Gravel is the leading contender for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series, and has won twice this season with the series. He was victorious on the opening night of the FVP Knoxville Nationals at the famed Knoxville Raceway in Iowa, earlier this month and also scored a win at I-94 Speedway in Minnesota in May. The East Coast racer has racked up 24 top-10 finishes with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series and seven of those have been top-five performances.
