Inside Line Promotions – KOKOMO, Ind. – Kokomo Speedway is a special place for Indiana native Kraig Kinser.

Kinser picked up his first career winged sprint car victory on the small track and he is a two-time winner with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series at Kokomo Speedway, which hosts the premier sprint car series for its annual visit on Wednesday, June 4.

“That will always be a special place for me,” he said. “It’s definitely got a lot of tradition. My grandpa ran there a lot. My uncles and cousins ran there. It’s just one of those places I really enjoy racing at, a lot of it because of the family ties there.”

Kinser was victorious in 2005 and in 2012 with the World of Outlaws at the quarter-mile track, but the family tradition dates back several decades. His father, 20-time series champion Steve Kinser, has earned a series-best six feature wins, including the inaugural event in 1978. And Kraig Kinser’s grandfather was a Kokomo Speedway track champion.

“It’s fulfilling knowing that not just me having success, but it’s a place where my family runs good,” Kraig Kinser said. “I’ve got more of a feel what the track is going to do.”

Kinser said he also enjoys the type of racing that is showcased at Kokomo Speedway, which always packs the fans into the grandstands.

“It’s an Indiana short track,” he said. “They produce really great races. It’s hard to break away. Air doesn’t play as big of a role so you can run right behind somebody and still have your car under you. It seems tight, but there’s a lot of room in the turns to make moves at. You’ve got to search around a little bit to find where your car is best at.”
