Inside Line Promotions – DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 6, 2014) – Tony Bruce Jr. capped last weekend by capturing his first top 10 with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series in nearly five years.

Bruce Jr. concluded the Boothill Showdown at Dodge City Raceway Park on Saturday by piloting the Ochs Racing entry to a 10th-place result on the rubber-down track, which marked his first top 10 with the premier sprint car series since Sept. 16, 2009 at Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa.

“We haven’t got to run a lot of Outlaw races lately,” he said. “To run in the top 10 is a good confidence booster. To finish on that note and get a top 10 with them proved to myself I can still race with the best in the country.”

Bruce Jr. opened the night by qualifying eighth quickest around the 3/8-mile oval.

“The good thing was we capitalized on getting a good draw,” he said. “We were able to lay down a decent enough lap.”

That started Bruce Jr. on the outside of the front row of his heat race. He finished third in the heat to lock himself into the main event, which he started on the outside of the fifth row.

“It was an up-and-down race,” he said. “I’d lose a couple of spots and then we’d have a restart and I’d get them back. I was able to get around (Donny) Schatz with about four laps to go to give us a top 10. It was a good weekend as far as that went. I was excited to get a top 10 for the Ochs brothers.”

It marked Bruce Jr.’s 18th top 10 of the season and first in 410ci action.

His weekend started on Friday at Dodge City Raceway Park, where he qualified 18th quickest.

“Friday I messed up in qualifying and got over the cushion on the second lap,” he said. “Unfortunately it didn’t give us a good time.”

After maneuvering from sixth to fourth place in his heat race, Bruce Jr. advance into the feature. He started the 30-lap main event on the outside of the ninth row.

“The track was super wet,” he said. “I went through about 30 tearoffs in the A Main. You had to stay right on the bottom. You really couldn’t do anything. I just got in line as soon as I could and rode around.”

Bruce Jr. ended with a 17th-place result.

He will return to his One 8 Motorsports sprint car this Friday at Electric City Speedway in Great Falls, Mont., and Saturday at Billings Motorsports Park in Billings, Mont., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
