AFTER EIGHT MAINS, BRIAN BROWN CONTINUES TO LEAD THE COX DESIGN IOWA SPEED WEEK POINTS

Following the first eight features of the ten-race 2014 Cox Design & Metal Fabrication Iowa Speed Week, ‘360’ Knoxville Nationals champion and Oskaloosa Front Row Challenge winner Brian Brown of Missouri continues to lead the point standings which will crown this year’s Jesse Hockett “Mr. Sprint Car” titlist. On Friday evening, 2003 and ‘04 “Mr. Sprint Car” Shane Stewart won the second preliminary RacingJunk.com-sponsored main of the 54th FVP Knoxville Nationals, presented by Casey’s General Stores.

The series continues with the FVP Knoxville Nationals, presented by Casey’s General Stores, on Saturday afternoon (SPEED SPORT Knoxville World Challenge) and Saturday night (national championship feature). According to Iowa Speed Week coordinator Tom Schmeh, “At this point, I believe that only Mark Dobmeier and SPEED SPORT Knoxville World Challenge competitor Ian Madsen can mathematically take the Jesse Hockett ‘Mr. Sprint Car’ title from Brian Brown, but that is going to be a really long shot for both of them.”

The unofficial top ten in the 2014 Cox Design Iowa Speed Week points after eight mains is as follows: 1., Brian Brown, 247 points; 2., Mark Dobmeier, 228 points; 3., Jason Johnson, 208 points; 4., Tony Bruce, Jr., 190 points; 5., Sam Hafertepe, Jr., 185 points; 6., Ian Madsen, 175 points; 7., Terry McCarl, 168 points; 8., Davey Heskin, 164 points; 9., Wayne Johnson, 161 points; 10., Randy Hannagan, 159 points.

The Cox Design & Metal Fabrication Iowa Speed Week includes ten points-paying sprint car feature races in ten days, July 31 - August 9, between the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville and the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa. The top three places pay $2,500, $1,000, and $500, respectively, with the winner declared the Jesse Hockett “Mr. Sprint Car” titlist. Past “Mr. Sprint Car” titlists include Ricky Logan (2002) of Arkansas, Shane Stewart (2003, ’04) of Oklahoma, Billy Alley (2005) of Nebraska, Jason Johnson (2006) of Louisiana, Wayne Johnson (2007, ‘08) of Oklahoma, Terry McCarl (2009) of Iowa, Sammy Swindell (2010, ‘11) of Tennessee, Kyle Larson (2012) of California, and Kevin Swindell (2013) of Tennessee.
