Mark Dobmeier – Rolling with the Outlaws!

Mark Dobmeier and the Lunstra/Dobmeier #13 team competed last weekend with the World of Outlaws in the Upper Midwest. The Grand Forks, North Dakota native would move forward in both night’s features. On Friday, the team competed at the Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa before moving on to Deer Creek Speedway near Spring Valley, Minnesota on Saturday.

Spencer had received a great amount of rain leaving race conditions a little narrow. “The straightaways were kind of dry and the corners were wet,” says Mark. “I thought it was going to be a decent track for the feature, but by then, it was one-lane around the bottom. Mother Nature was working against them, because it had rained the day before and the morning of.”

Though he was unable to start his heat up front, Mark would qualify for the main event. “We missed the heat invert by one spot, qualifying 17th,” he says. “We were able to move up to finish fourth in the heat.”

He would start outside row eight for the feature. “I was able to move up a few spots right away, but there wasn’t much we could do,” says Mark. “I’m not the best follower, so I tried to do something. I went high and bicycled. I lost a few spots and got back in line. We ended up 14th.”

A similar qualifying spot at Deer Creek on Saturday and a heat race mishap set up a charge in the main event. “Deer Creek was an interesting track too,” says Mark. “We were a little tight and chasing the car all night long. We qualified 18th, which put us back in row three of the heat race. I tipped it over there in turn one. It wasn’t a very hard one, but we got on our side and knocked the rear-end out of it.”

The team went to work and readied the car for the B main, where Mark would finish second and move on to the finale. He would start 18th. “We were pretty decent in the feature,” he says. “It was pretty tough to pass, but we did move up seven spots (to finish 11th).”

The team is contemplating their next move in 2014, if any. “We may be done,” says Mark. “We’ve been kicking around Eldora in October (with the All Stars), but we haven’t decided anything yet.”

The Lunstra/Dobmeier team would like to thank Senske and Son Transfer, Big Trucks by Jimco, Sioux Falls Ford, Steffe’s Auctioneers, Dammer Trucking, ACME Tool, Strong Box and Tire Boss for all their help!
