Inside Line Promotions – ANTIOCH, Calif. (March 31, 2015) – Chase Johnson took a giant step forward last Sunday at Antioch Speedway, where he nearly advanced into his first career World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series main event.

Johnson and the Shawn and Cindy Thomas owned team took a big swing at the setup after qualifying 26th quickest.

“We went to Antioch with a little different package with the shocks and made a big adjustment following qualifying,” he said. “It made quite a big difference. We found our speed and forward bite we were looking for all night long, but we fell victim to qualifying poorly with the Outlaws.”

Johnson finished seventh in a heat race, which relegated him to the Last Chance Showdown. He then competed just outside of a transfer throughout the consolation race before placing fifth – only one spot shy of making the main event.

“There weren’t as many cars there, but there were a healthy amount of cars,” he said. “It’s definitely nothing to hang our heads about. We’re finding our speed and I’m gaining confidence. With a little fine-tuning I think we’ll be good to go.”

Johnson opened the weekend on Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., where he qualified 39th quickest, advanced from 10th to eighth place in a heat race and finished sixth in the C Main.

“Chico was really slick and when the track slicked off we were really, really struggling for grip and forward bite,” he said. “As the track went slicker and slicker we were throwing everything we had at it. We kept chasing ourselves and chasing ourselves. We got a little better throughout the night, but not as much as we needed.”

Johnson will compete this Saturday at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif., with the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” he said. “It’s a small, tight track where I have quite a few laps on.”
