Inside Line Promotions – CALISTOGA, Calif. (April 15, 2015) – Trey Starks will return home to race in Washington this weekend following a six-week West Coast swing with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.

Starks is set to compete in both the 410ci and 360ci classes on Saturday at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., where he will drive a brand new car in the 410 class following a violent crash last weekend. Starks will also pilot a 360 sprint car for Doug Rutz.

“We’ve got some things figured out,” Starks said. “Our goal is to win both classes this weekend. We’re looking for an early win to pick this team up and if we could get two the same night that’d be twice as good.”

Starks showed a lot of speed throughout last weekend. Unfortunately, he lacked luck throughout a trio of races in California.

The weekend began last Friday with the Ocean Sprints at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, where Starks qualified second quickest and advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race. He then lined up on the outside of the third row for the main event.

“That track is so close to the ocean that when the tide rolls in all the moisture comes into the track,” he said. “We had a really good track for qualifying and the heat races. As the moisture rolled in the track got narrow and rough. It ended up being tough to pass on. I was trying to go around the outside of a guy and he wasn’t looking. I got pinched between him and the wall. It ended a good run.”

Starks was battling for a top five when he crashed around Lap 7. He was credited with a 16th-place result.

The team ventured to Calistoga Speedway on Saturday for the first night of a World of Outlaws doubleheader.

“We qualified fifth, which was really good, and we made it through our heat,” he said.

Starks timed in fifth quickest and finished fourth in a heat race to lock himself into the main event. He was only one spot out of making the dash via qualifying so he lined up on the inside of the fifth row for the main event.

“We were just off,” he said. “I ran the bottom the first couple of laps and had cars go by me on the top. I moved to the top and had cars pass me on the bottom. We weren’t very good.”

Starks ended with a 14th-place finish, which marked his best result of the season with the World of Outlaws.

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Calistoga Speedway, where Starks went out late for qualifying and it showed with a 21st-place qualifying result.

“We drew a late number and it hurt us pretty bad,” he said. “The track dropped off a couple of seconds. I’d say we were right there for the way the track was though.”

Starks lined up on the outside of third row in a heat race and he quickly advanced into fourth place on the opening lap. Unfortunately, another car crashed into him in turn two on the second lap. Starks flipped into the wall, ending his night early.

“We got a really good start,” he said. “I knew he was going to try to slide me. I was ready for it. It was one of those deals where the slider didn’t work. He didn’t have enough speed. Usually when that happens you back out and pull in behind the guy. He decided to drive into us. That junked our car and ended our weekend.”
