Inside Line Promotions – ATTICA, Ohio (June 2, 2015) – Dale Blaney powered to his 10th career World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series feature victory last Friday at Attica Raceway Park.
Blaney used a midrace restart to propel the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed CH Motorsports team into the lead en route to his fourth triumph of the season.
“We were really good,” he said. “We’ve made more laps there than most of those guys combined. I feel like we were at a little bit of an advantage racing there and feel like when we have that advantage we need to take advantage of it.”
Blaney opened the event by drawing a good number to go out early in qualifying, which he capitalized on by setting quick time.
“We drew a two for qualifying,” he said. “That was huge because the track slowed down a bunch in qualifying. By setting quick time you just have to run in the top five in your heat to make the dash.”
Blaney did just that as he registered a fourth-place result to lock himself into the dash, where the No. 6 was drawn as the inversion. That started him on the outside of the third row for the six-lap dash.
“I didn’t really get the best start,” he said. “I jumped into fifth right away and had to work on (Daryn) Pittman for a couple of laps. I never really run the top in turns one and two that good (at Attica Raceway Park). Pittman and Joey (Saldana) were dropping to the bottom going into turn one. I took a shot at the top and felt really good up there and immediately moved to the top in turns three and four. That set us up for the feature. If we start sixth in the A Main I don’t know if we can get to the front. That made our whole night.”
Blaney maneuvered the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored sprint car from sixth to second place in the dash to garner the outside front row starting position for the 40-lap feature.
“I’ve run a lot of 40-lap races there,” he said. “We had it tightened up pretty good so I didn’t want to use it up that much early. I was being patient and taking my time. I felt like I was better than Cody (Darrah) the first five laps, but from Lap 5 to the yellow on Lap 16 we were pretty equal. I was fortunate to get a good restart, take off and get in clean air.”
Blaney took the top spot on a Lap-16 restart and he never looked back.
“Traffic was tough the last 10 laps of the race,” he said. “I had to follow tight around the tires in turns one and two, but I never heard anybody or saw anybody.”
Following his win, a pair of UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions races on Saturday at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio, and Sunday at Millstream Speedway in Findlay, Ohio, were rained out.
Blaney is scheduled to return to action this Saturday at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway in Imperial, Pa., and Sunday at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, Pa., with the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions.
