Inside Line Promotions – CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 9, 2015) – Trey Starks had a breakout performance on a national stage last weekend during the Bad Boy Buggies World of Outlaws World Finals with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.

Starks came close to capturing his first career World of Outlaws feature victory on Friday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, where he led the first 12 laps of the 25-lap feature before the tie rod broke in the right front of the Jeff McCall owned race car.

“The first night it was a real heartbreak,” he said. “I had a real fast car. I just fell victim to a part that night. The track was pretty brutal.”

Starks had kicked off the weekend the previous night when he qualified third quickest – which tied a career best with the Outlaws – out of 58 drivers for Friday’s program and fifth quickest for Saturday’s event, which was delayed a day because of the weather.

“We had a really good qualifying effort, which put us in a good position for the heat race on Friday,” he said. “We finished third in the heat and we got in the dash. Then we got a good inversion. We ended up beating Joey (Saldana), which put us on the pole of the main.”

Starks capitalized on the four-car dash inversion, which lined him up on the pole, to win and earn the pole position for the main event on the tricky track.

“We were real fast in the dash and had the fastest lap in the main,” he said. “It looked like we were going to win. Then we bent a tie-rod in the front end. It made it real hard to steer. I felt the tie rod bend and the steering start to go on the caution with five laps down. I knew something was wrong. The wheels were pointing in different directions. I could barely turn it. It was a bad deal, but it happens when you’re running in the rough stuff. I didn’t hit the wall or anyone so it must have got hit by a big piece of dirt or putting so much force on the right front wheel did it.”

Starks pulled into the work area while leading during a caution one lap prior to the midpoint of the feature. He restarted at the back and ended with a 19th-place result.

The weekend concluded on Sunday with Starks finishing where he started – second – in a heat race. That locked him into the 16th starting position for the main event.

“The track changed drastically from Friday’s night main,” he said. “It went from one extreme to the other. It was super, super slick. We were running around 15th and we got tangled with another car, which spun us out about five laps in. We had some nose wing damage and went in to change it. We picked up quite a few spots at the end of the race, but we were a lap down so we didn’t get scored a couple of those positions.”

Starks placed 24th to cap the weekend.

“It was a pretty good weekend,” he said. “We made the main both nights with a ton of cars here. We had a bid for the win one night. I would chalk it up as a win for the weekend.”
