World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Weekly Update
SALINA, Okla. — March 31, 2016 — Just four weeks remain until the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina, Oklahoma on Friday, April 29. The event will mark the series’ only visit of the season to the state of Oklahoma.
In the series most recent race on March 23 at Placerville Speedway in California, Jason Johnson, picked up his first win of the season and the second of his career with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. For Johnson, the win was extra special as he suffered a broken back last year at Placerville, which kept him out of the seat for nearly three months. Daryn Pittman, who was also injured at Placerville last year, finished second in the No. 9 machine for Kasey Kahne Racing.
Brad Sweet, the current series point leader, has won three races and leads the series with 11 top-five finishes in 12 starts. Shane Stewart, who was born and raised in nearby Bixby, Okla., and won at Salina Highbanks Speedway in 2015, is currently second in points, with one win and 11 top-10 finishes. Pittman, who hails from Owasso, Okla., and finished third at Salina last year, also has a victory to his credit in 2016 and is third in points. Donny Schatz, the seven-time and defending series champion, leads the series with four wins and is fourth in the standings. Joey Saldana, who won at Salina in 2014, also has one win this season and is fifth in points.
David Gravel and Johnson are sixth and seventh, respectively, each with a win. Jason Sides is currently eighth, with Logan Schuchart ninth and Paul McMahan rounds out the top-10. Seven different drivers, representing the top-seven drivers in points, have won a race this season.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series continues their California Swing this weekend with a pair of races.
