Brady Bacon – WoO Sixth at Little Rock Sets up Busy Week!

(Bill W) May 2, 2016 – Brady Bacon knows his way around I-30 Speedway near Little Rock, Arkansas, and he proved that with a sixth place run with the World of Outlaws last Tuesday. After rain plagued the Midwest last weekend, the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver looks to make up for it this week starting with the WoO at Jacksonville Speedway in Illinois on Wednesday. Friday and Saturday will mean double duty at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio. Brady will pilot his own #99 again with the WoO and be back behind the wheel of the Hoffman Racing #69 with the USAC sprint cars.

Brady timed in fifth quick on the ¼-mile oval in Little Rock. “I think we were the second to last car out,” he says. “It was pretty hard to get down a good time, but we were happy with fifth for sure. We were fastest in the first round of hot laps, so we the car was running well.”

He would finish second in the heat and qualify for the Dash. “I think we were a little better than (David) Gravel in the heat, but it really wasn’t wide enough to pass yet,” says Brady. “The invert was six in the Dash, which put us outside row one. We got a good start, and got out front. We were really good there.”

After winning the Dash, he settled into the pole for the main event. “Starting on the inside wasn’t really the best place to be,” says Brady. “You had to really pinch down in the corner to get the good stuff. Jason (Sides) got us on the start and we ran second for over half the race.”

Brady ran well, but the race was slowed by several cautions. “We had quite a few restarts,” he says. “I got off the bottom once, and (Daryn) Pittman got by me. We ran in third for a while. We had a restart and Sides (leader) chose the outside, which kind of put me fourth in line. That wasn’t an advantage unless you were in the front row. That last restart just put us in a place we didn’t want to be and I lost a couple of spots.”

The Brady Bacon Racing #99 ran well. “We had a really good car most of the race,” says Brady. “We made a little mistake during the open red and went up a little too much on air pressure. We were a little free for a while after the restart. We ran up front all night though. I wish we hadn’t fallen back to sixth at the end, but looking at the guys who got by us, it was hard to be disappointed. We definitely had the speed to be up front where we were.”

Brady is looking forward to tackling another 1/4-mile with the Outlaws on Wednesday. “I think we’ll be good at Jacksonville,” he says. “We kind of struggled there last time with the Outlaws, but we think our short track package is where it needs to be.”
