Greatest Show on Dirt Invades Fremont Speedway

The drivers competing in the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series know when they come to Fremont Speedway they will have their hands full with the tough weekly competitors. The Kistler Engines Smackdown will bring them all together Friday, June 3 at “The Track That Action Built.”

Kistler Engines and Ohio Logistics have teamed up to sponsor the action packed night of racing and Fremont Speedway is rewarding the local teams who have support the track all season by paying the World of Outlaws membership fee for those who are currently in the top 20 in the track’s points.

The last time the Outlaws visited Fremont Speedway, seven time series champion Donny Schatz of Fargo, N.D. proved to be the “comeback kid.” In 2014 he would come from the Last Chance Showdown to win his 26th series race of the season. Shane Stewart, of Bixby, Oklahoma, the series’ most recent winner, finished second and Sandusky, Ohio’s Chris Andrews finished third.

A driver with a lot of confidence coming into the Fremont event is Benton Ridge, Ohio’s Greg Wilson. Wilson, on the World of Outlaw tour for the first time, picked up a win last weekend with the series. He has 12 career wins at Fremont Speedway.

Grass Valley, California native Brad Sweet has driven his Kasey Kahne Racing team atop the series point standings and has six wins on the season. Schatz sits second in the World of Outlaw points with seven series victories while another Kasey Kahne Racing driver, Daryn Pittman, sits third with four wins. Only Schatz has a victory a Fremont on their resume. Stewart, who has two career wins at Fremont, is fourth in the series standings while Joey Saldana is fifth.

So far at Fremont in 2016 wins have been posted by California native Carson Macedo, Wooster, Ohio’s Broc Martin and two wins by six time and defending track champion Byron Reed.

Also racing Friday will be the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 sprints. Track Promoter Rich Farmer plans to have them all run a main feature, with odds and evens in the track’s points backing up the two 25 lap affairs. The McCullough Industries 602 Late Models will also be in action.
