TKS Motorsports- Strong Top Five With The WoO!

The TKS Motorsports #2KS team and driver Craig Dollansky charged from tenth to finish an impressive fifth with the World of Outlaws Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Minnesota. They followed that up with a sixth place finish with the NSL at Knoxville Raceway in Iowa on Saturday. This weekend will see the team competing in the two-night NSL event Friday and Saturday in Knoxville.

Craig timed in sixth quick in the 36-car field at Jackson. “We’ve been pretty good at Jackson,” says TKS Motorsports owner and crew chief Troy Renfro. “We tried a couple of things in hot laps and it really wasn’t that good. So we went back to what we have been doing and qualified well.”

Sixth quick meant starting outside row one of the second heat. “We talked about what might happen at the start of the heat and it played out that way,” says Troy. “We tried to stay in there, and we ended up finishing third. That took us out of the Dash, but we were able to start tenth.”

Craig made the charge from outside row five into the top five. “We could have been a touch better,” says Troy. “It was a different racetrack. The bottom was really good, and the top was so far around. You had to go all out on the top on the double-file restarts and hope someone screwed up underneath you. All in all, it was a fifth place finish and for our team, that’s huge.”

The team timed in eighth quick in NSL action at Knoxville Saturday. “We’ve been struggling there on our qualifying,” says Troy. “We’ve come to the conclusion the last couple weeks that we’re going to try some different things. The Nationals are right around the corner. Everywhere we go, we’ve been pretty good. We’ve struggled at Knoxville a bit in qualifying, and on some nights with our balance.”

Craig won his heat from the second row, and started fifth in the main event. “We had tried some things from the previous week, and decided to make some changes for the feature,” says Troy. “We were hoping it would make us better, but it didn’t. A sixth place finish was o.k., and we’ll keep trying to build from there.”

Troy and the team will continue to work on their Knoxville setup as August approaches. “We’re just off a little bit at Knoxville. That’s hard to figure. Craig’s won a lot of races there, and so have I. I still have a track record there with Brooke (Tatnell), and I’ve always been successful there. We’re off just a little bit, and we’ll continue to work hard on that this weekend. We have a new car put together, so we’ll see if that makes a difference.”
