Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (July 19, 2016) – Eldora Speedway will humble the best in dirt track racing. For Ryan Smith, the Kings Royal weekend was just that.

Smith found speed during the final night of the three-night marquee event, but a crash left him wanting to race at the legendary half-mile track again and again and again.

“The best part is we got faster and better every night,” he said. “We just need more laps at that place. It’s nothing like any track we race on. Eldora is definitely a place where seat time comes into play.”

After a solid previous weekend at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., where he finished seventh and second in one night as a make-up feature was held on July 9, Smith challenged the “best of the best” at Eldora Speedway for the three-night Kings Royal affair.

“I’ve raced at Williams Grove where the speed is phenomenal,” he said. “But to do that around the banking … four to five inches from the wall… nothing can prepare you for that other than doing it.”

To complicate matters, Smith had a newer chassis at Eldora.

“It all comes down to seat time at that place … no matter what car you drive,” he said. “I like the place and I hope I get to go there a ton in the near future. The track changed every day. Just when I thought we were okay qualifying the final night against the wall … the last group went to the bottom and it was fast. The best sprint car drivers in the world were there and we held our own.”

Saturday night was the closest Smith came to making the A Main. He qualified 39th out of 60 cars and finished fifth in his heat race, just missing the money race by two positions. In the B Main Smith was battling for a transfer position when he was involved in a wild crash.

“I got stuffed in the fenced,” he said. “It’s the nature of that place and that race. I learned and we will be back. Look, you aren’t going to get better sitting at home.”

The fortunate part is the Warko team took ownership of a new car the week leading up to the Kings Royal. They will debut it this weekend when the World of Outlaw Craftsman Sprint Car Series heads to Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., on Friday and Saturday.

“For our budget, we have the best team around here,” he said. “Our guys work harder than anyone and I’m excited.”
