Inside Line Promotions – CHICO, Calif. (Sept. 15, 2016) – Dominic Scelzi posted his third top-10 finish in a four-race span with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series a week ago Wednesday in Oregon.

“It was a good way to round out our trip to the East and Midwest this summer,” he said. “I think we have been able to show our improvement through our results the last few weeks so that’s a big boost of confidence for our team.”

Last week began on Wednesday at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., where Scelzi timed in 17th quickest during qualifying before he placed eighth in a heat race.

“We were able to go forward in the qualifier and main event and get better as the night went on,” he said.

Scelzi maneuvered from 11th to sixth place in the qualifier, which lined him up on the outside of the fifth row for the main event.

“I got into the top five for a lap or so,” he said. “I got caught behind a lapped car with about three to go. I had just passed (Jason) Sides on the top and going into the next corner I had to lift for a lapped car. That was frustrating to lose all that ground up and those positions.”

Scelzi ended with an eighth-place finish, which was his fifth top 10 of the season with the World of Outlaws. Here is a link to watch the main event: https://youtu.be/lQFw0SFMtbg.

His Roth Motorsports backed team ventured to California for the first time since May to compete last weekend during the Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway. The competition began on Friday with Scelzi qualifying 25th quickest overall. That lined him up on the outside of the third row for a heat race.

“We were able to go from sixth to fourth in the first corner,” he said. “We were lucky to get a break when someone broke so that moved us up to third. On the restart we almost had second, but weren’t able to clear the move.”

The strong performance locked Scelzi into the 11th starting position for the main event.

“We were really good in the beginning,” he said. “I had just passed Kerry Madsen when I hit the cushion wrong and it drove me off the end of the track. I fell back to 16th or 17th and had to regroup. I started making the bottom work. As the race went on the track got faster and rougher. We were able to work our way back up to 11th.”

Scelzi rebounded to score an 11th-place finish, which was only one position away from earning his fourth top 10 in five races with the series. Here is a link to watch the feature: https://youtu.be/3KuP-PZkH1Q.

After qualifying 25th quickest on Saturday the team was unable to start the heat race or C Main.

Scelzi will return to action this Saturday at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., where he will drive for Nick McColloch.
