Inside Line Promotions – SALINA, Okla. (Oct. 24, 2016) – Sammy Swindell and the Blazin’ Racin’ team are right on track entering the Bad Boy Off Road World of Outlaws World Finals this weekend.

The team will venture to The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., this Thursday through Saturday for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series season finale fresh off a pair of learning nights with the Outlaws last weekend.

“We’re still trying to sort a few things out of where they are at and what we need to do,” Swindell said. “We’d like to have been more competitive than we have, but we have solved a couple of things. We made a couple of improvements from Eldora and we were able to gain from the whole night last Friday onto Saturday. That’s the progress of trying to work together and learn everything that you need to do to have a better car.”

Last weekend began on Friday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Rumble on the River. Swindell qualified 12th quickest overall before placing fifth in a heat race.

“We went out a little early and it seemed the track got a bit better,” he said. “We were off a little, but when everyone is real close it doesn’t leave much room for error. We were having some trouble with the motor cutting out at times. I felt like I had a spot once in the heat race and then we had that issue.”

That lined Swindell up on the inside of the seventh row for the main event.

“The car was tight starting the race and then the track started to go away as the fuel burned off,” he said. “It made it to where our car was better at the end than a lot of people. We ran most of the race just a little way behind (Donny) Schatz. He probably didn’t have his best night, but it wasn’t like we were out to lunch.”

Swindell maneuvered to an eighth-place result, which was his best World of Outlaws finish in limited action since March.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Salina Highbanks Speedway for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Twister Showdown. Swindell timed in 17th quickest during qualifying before he posted a sixth-place result in the heat race. That locked him into the 17th starting position for the feature.

“On the start of the race the guy in front of me hit the brakes at the flag stand so I went around him,” he said. “I got stuck in the middle of the corner and lost a bunch of spots. That fouled us up when we got in the wrong place. I worked my way through a few cars. We had a restart and someone didn’t go and the guy behind me turned me around. I didn’t even make it to the flag stand so I had to go to the tail. We passed quite a few cars again, but when you start that far back it wasn’t long before the leaders got there. (Daryn) Pittman got by and I saw where he was running so I was able to follow some of those guys and was staying with them the rest of the race. The setup was really close. It was the best we’ve had it so far.”

Swindell rebounded from both incidents to score a 14th-place finish.

“Thanks to Todd, Susan and Greg for the opportunity,” he said. “We’re making progress so hopefully that all comes together this weekend at the World Finals.”

Swindell captured the first-ever World of Outlaws race at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in 2000 and he also won a World Finals feature in 2012.
