Inside Line Promotions – WEEDSPORT, N.Y. (May 22, 2017) – Jason Sides set himself up for success last weekend throughout a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series tripleheader in Central Pennsylvania.

Sides qualified well each night and he made all three main events. Unfortunately, his feature finishes didn’t end as well.

“We just didn’t capitalize,” he said. “The goal was to get in the show and of course when you’re starting mid-pack you want to at least stay there if I’m being realistic.”

The action began last Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., where Sides qualified seventh quickest before advancing from fourth to third place in a heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the fifth row for the Gettysburg Clash main event.

“We ran the bottom too long,” he said. “Everyone went to the top and I got slid a couple of times. I moved back to the bottom where I felt I had a shot at it and then they started going around me on the top. It’s hard to go there once a year and feel like it’s competitive.”

Sides was battling around 15th when another competitor spun him out in the closing laps. He finished with a 24th-place result.

Circumstances were similar on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., where Sides timed in 11th quickest in his group, placed sixth in a heat race and ended fourth in the Last Chance Showdown to transfer into the main event. He gained several positions before being turned around with only a few laps remaining.

“I felt pretty good and then late in the race someone got into the back of me,” he said. “I hit the inside wall and it tore up some stuff.”

Sides was credited with a 21st-place finish.

He returned to the famed half-mile oval on Saturday for the Morgan Cup, which began with Sides qualifying third quickest overall. He then won a heat race to make the dash. A sixth-place result lined Sides up on the outside of the third row for the main event.

“We were really good while we were racing, but the cautions didn’t go my way,” he said. “I’d lose a spot or two on the restarts. Once we got going we were fine. We wore the tires out and didn’t have any grip on the restarts. If it would have stayed green longer we’d have finished better.”

Sides raced in the top six for most of the race before two late restarts cost him several positions as he ended 15th.

“I couldn’t hold the bottom anymore,” he said. “I was hanging on that last five or 10 laps.”

Sunday’s Empire State Challenge at Weedsport Speedway was rained out following qualifying. It has been rescheduled for Oct. 15.

Sides is scheduled to compete this Tuesday at New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, N.J., for the Jersey Outlaw Classic and Friday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., for the Outlaw Showdown with the World of Outlaws.
