Shark Racing Recap Week 16

The Shark Racing Team rolled into the famed Knoxville Raceway as they do most racetracks, how can we improve on our last outing. The team has endured a lot already at this point in the season, but with a never quit attitude they have already improved upon last season’s numbers. With three A-Feature wins all coming for Logan Schuchart and improved finishes for Jacob Allen the confidence in the team’s combination is growing.

Currently, the team is facing a power shortage, but like they do better than anyone in the business the Shark Racing guys will push forward to make the best with what they have. Reportedly new power plants are coming from Newman’s Racing Engines. But for this weeks Knoxville adventure the guys would be on “Tired Engines” to put it kindly.

Night number one proved to be tricky, with technical track conditions and a full field of Knoxville regulars, Jacob and Logan both took the track for time trials in flight B. Jacob timed in 17th with a lap of 16.06 and Logan timed in 19th with a lap of 16.11.

That qualifying effort would line up the Shark Racing teammates in heat number one. Logan would push off 10th and Jacob from the 9th position.

Track position is always critical at Knoxville, especially in heat race competition. When the checkered fell on heat race number one, Logan had advanced three positions to 7th and Jacob came across the stripe in 11th.

A tough outing in qualifying had the team behind the eight ball all night and the Shark Racing team cars rolled off in the C-Main. Jacob starting from the pole and Logan started eighth. Logan put on an impressive charge to take the C-Main win and Jacob held his own placing second, advancing both cars into the Last Chance Showdown.

The 12 lap Last Chance Showdown lined up with Jacob firing off in the 14th position and Logan from the 13th position. Both drivers moved forward at the start of the Last Chance Showdown and then struggled to gain track position as the field began to string out a bit. A mid-race caution gave the guys another crack at it, and Logan dazzled the crowd with a high-side restart passing car after car in route to a battle for the final transfer spot. After a spirited battle with Josh Schneiderman left Logan one spot short of the transfer spot and a tough night for the Shark Racing Team would end in 2 DNQ’s

KNOXVILLE, IA — June 9, 2017 — Kasey Kahne Racing driver Brad Sweet dominated Night One of the Brownell’s Big Guns Bash at Knoxville Raceway, leading all 25 laps of the Feature in his No. 49 car with fellow Outlaws David Gravel and Donny Schatz following him through the checkers. It was a big win for the Outlaws as they took the podium entirely away from Team Knoxville despite a rubbered track surface.

Knoxville Night Number 2 –

Night number two would be a little different story line then night 1, as both Logan and Jacob had improved qualifying efforts with Logan timing 2nd in group B with a time of 15.491, and Jacob timing 12th in group B with a time of 15.789.

Track conditions were much faster for night number two of the “Brownells Big Guns Bash” and with improved Qualifying effort from both cars, the outlook on night 2 was bright.

Logan and Jacob again would share heat race number four with Logan rolling from the pole and Jacob starting 6th. Logan fired off driving past Brad Sweet and pulling a large lead, while a shake up in the middle of the field cost Jacob a few spots early. Logan set a torrid pace and heat race four was over as quick as it started as Logan grabbed the checkered flag and Jacob would roll home 9th.

Up next was the Craftsman Club Dash which had Logan rolling from the 5th starting position. By this time in the evening, the track was pretty cleaned off and wide open. Logan would come across the line in 6th place, and he would be set for the A-Main

Jacob would start 6th in the 12 lap Last Chance Showdown, and track position proved to be everything as Jacob couldn’t move forward and came home 6th after the 12th lap, just two spots short of the final transfer spot.

Feature time was upon us, and Logan was ready for battle from his 6th starting position. As Johnny called the four-wide and the Knoxville grandstands came to its feet…. The roar of the cars took over the roar of the crowd, and the A-Main was green!

The best in the business didn’t take his time driving to the front of the field as Donny Schatz took the lead early on. Logan battled hot and heavy throughout the race with Brian Brown, Daryn Pittman, Shane Stewart and Brand Sweet inside the top five.

When the field shook out, and the checkered flag had fallen Logan placed in the 6th position and Donny Schatz was your winner. The Weekend was a tale of two nights for both Shark Racing drivers and the team added to the notebook with the upcoming Knoxville Nationals in mind.
