Scelzi Optimistic Entering Brad Doty Classic and Kings Royal This Week

Inside Line Promotions – NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (July 10, 2017) – Dominic Scelzi is excited to kick off the ‘Month of Money’ at a pair of premier events in Ohio this weekend.

Scelzi and his family owned, Roth Motorsports supported team will compete on Tuesday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, for the Brad Doty Classic before venturing to Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, for the Kings Royal this Thursday through Saturday with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

“We want to make the shows,” he said. “We want to make every main event. It’s going to be a big feat if we can do that. If we can go in there and qualify strong that will be the first goal. Then I need to run well in the heat races. If we can do that and get ourselves in the main events that’d be a huge accomplishment for me.”

Scelzi, who has earned one career top 10 in limited starts at each track, is coming off a learning doubleheader last weekend at Cedar Lake Speedway during the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown with the World of Outlaws.

“We drew the No. 58 pill the first night and the track slowed down quite a bit during qualifying,” he said. “We had pretty good speed, but we needed to be a little better. We were able to transfer through our heat race. Then in the main event we gained a little early, but lost some late.”

Scelzi qualified 18th quickest before he finished fifth in a heat race to lock into the main event. He battled between 15th and 20th throughout the A Main before ending 19th.

The weekend concluded on Saturday, when Scelzi timed in 24th quickest during qualifying to open the program.

“We needed a better pill draw because the track fell off more,” he said. “We drew the No. 50 and went out real late. That started us sixth in a heat and I made a mistake. We were battling with Jason Sides and Logan Schuchart. I slipped up on the cushion and Sides got by. Then I was racing all out and ended up letting Schuchart by me and we finished seventh.”

That relegated Scelzi to the sixth starting position in the Last Chance Showdown.

“We battled from fourth to sixth the whole race and ended up fifth to miss a transfer by only one position,” he said. “I needed to make some better moves and we needed to be better all around.

“We had speed all weekend. We weren’t off the pace. We just got behind the eight ball all night long with our pill draws. The results weren’t what we wanted, but I think we gained on some stuff. We tried some setup things to see what we could learn on the car and we got some good notes on it.”
