Solid Weekend with the Outlaws for Paul Nienhiser
Paul Nienhiser and the 9x team had a solid weekend at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. This came after a weekend off to regroup for the rest of the season, following another two-race weekend with the WoO. "Honestly I wasn't expecting much, I was hoping to have enough speed to make the show both nights. Cedar Lake isn't the type of place we thrive on."
Friday nights portion saw Paul going out late in the order for qualifying, timing in 20th amongst the strong 33 car field. That lined him up 5th in heat 4 with the World of Outlaws format. Falling back to 6th early, Paul used the high line to his advantage to move his way up to 4th. "I think we were one of the only cars to try the top and make it work in the heats. I changed some things after qualifying with the race car and we were a lot better."
Paul would line up 16th in the main event. The 40 lap race saw plenty of action all over the place. The track would ultimately take rubber around lap 20 and a single file race would follow. Paul ended up officially in the 16th position
The Saturday night portion started off much better for Paul and his 9x team. With an even stronger 33 car field than the previous night, Paul would go out late again to time trial and put down the 13th quickest lap of the night. Lining up 4th in his heat race, Paul would hold the 4th position until the final lap, slipping back to 5th. This was still good enough to transfer directly into the main event for the second straight night. Lining up 17th, Paul used both the extreme outside line and very bottom line around the track to move up to the 13th postion. After a couple of untimely late yellows, Paul would officially cross the line in 17th. "I was pleased with how much speed we had this weekend, and we learned a lot going forward. We had a good run going and caught a rut on one of the late restarts that cost me a bunch of spots. To come here and make the show both nights was what we set out to do so being able to move forward and pass cars was just icing on the cake."
This coming weekend includes a 3 race weekend beginning in Friday at Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, IL on Friday, Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, IL on Saturday, and Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prarie, WI on Sunday.
