Sides Charges Back From Early Incident to Earn Top Five at Cedar Lake

Inside Line Promotions – NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (July 11, 2017) – Jason Sides produced a pair of strong results last weekend during the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown.
Sides posted a seventh-place finish on Friday during the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series opener before capping the doubleheader at Cedar Lake Speedway with a fifth-place result on Saturday.
“It was a good end to the weekend, especially charging from the back on Saturday the way we did,” he said. “Any time you can run in the top five it’s a good night.”
The weekend began on Thursday at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., where the World of Outlaws finished an event that was postponed a week because of rain.
“We restarted 13th and we weren’t bad,” he said. “We ran about eight or 10 laps and somebody started to spin in front of (Brad) Sweet. He got sideways and hit that person. That collected me and then Jason Johnson hit me. It smashed the header flat and knocked the left front tire off and damaged the wings. There wasn’t enough time in the work area to get it all fixed so we weren’t able to restart.”
Sides was credited with a 15th-place finish.
He ventured to Cedar Lake Speedway on Friday, when he qualified fourth quickest before winning a heat race. The dash inversion was a No. 4 to put him on the pole.
“The track got so slick,” he said. “The outside was way better and I was on the pole. When we got going I tried hitting the bottom and two or three drivers went by. I tried the bottom the next corner and a couple more got by. I finally got in line and rode around the top.”
Sides placed sixth in the dash to start the main event on the outside of the third row.
“I fell back to around ninth on a restart,” he said. “I got back by one of them and I was behind Johnson when he got in the wall so that gave us another spot. I think we were up to fifth late in the race when we had a restart and Greg Wilson motored by on the bottom followed by Ian Madsen. It must have been laying some rubber on the bottom.”
Sides placed seventh.
He wrapped up the weekend on Saturday at the high-banked track, where he timed in 28th quickest after going out late in the order. Sides rallied from seventh to fourth in a heat race to lock into the 16th starting position in the main event.
“A lap or two in someone in front of us started to spin,” he said. “I went to the infield to keep from hitting them and spun so I went to the rear. I came back through there straddling the tires in the wet stuff.”
Sides overcame the early incident as he rallied from the back of the field to a fifth-place finish.
“It was good because it showed we can drive through there and have the speed to do it,” he said. “That was a great way to end the weekend.”
Sides is slated to compete this Tuesday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, for the Brad Doty Classic and Thursday through Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, for the Kings Royal with the World of Outlaws.
