Inside Line Promotions – BURLISON, Tenn. (Aug. 1, 2017) – Brandon Hanks has had this weekend circled on his calendar for the last year.
Hanks will venture to one of his favorite tracks this Friday and Saturday for the Ironman 55, which is the longest World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series race of the season and is hosted by Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo.
“It’s different, very fast and one of a kind,” he said. “There’s not another track like it.”
Hanks has only been able to compete at the high-banked oval once, which came during the Ironman 55 last year. He finished sixth in a heat race to narrowly miss locking into the A Main, but a fourth-place result in the Last Chance Showdown garnered a transfer into the 55-lap main event.
Hanks ended the night with a 22nd-place finish and a love of a new track.
“We’ve planned on going there four or five times since then, but it always gets rained out,” he said. “Hopefully we have great weather this weekend and we can get two straight nights of racing at the track.
“I just want to have some fun. I want to enjoy it because when I enjoy it I do better. I hope we can go into the weekend and make the shows and get us a top 10, top 15. I’d be happy with that. The goal is to make the show, keep our nose clean and run as many laps as possible.”
Hanks is coming off a seventh-place result in Illinois during his most recent 410ci winged sprint car start on June 9. He achieved his career-best 410 result of fourth place two weeks earlier.
Hanks enters this weekend riding a six-race top-10 streak.
