Weekend Off After Ironman 55 Rainout for Paul Nienhiser
Paul Nienhiser Racing looks ahead at a weekend off from racing this week. Last weekend's Ironman 55 weekend at Federated Auto Parts Raceway rained out on Saturday night.
Friday nights portion saw Paul draw the 3rd to last pill to go out for qualifying, timing in 25th amongst the strong 37 car field. Lining up seventh in his heat race with five cars transferring to the main event, Paul fell just one spot short after advancing to the sixth position.
Reverting back to qualifying times to line up for the Last Chance Showdown, Paul would start outside the second row. Quickly maneuvering his way into the lead, Paul would lead the distance until the final lap, earning a spot in the main event. He would pull to the infield early in the feature to save equipment after starting on the tail.
"We really got put behind the 8 ball with such a late pill draw with the track conditions. We put it in the show, but rubber down conditions in the feature just burnt everyones tires off and you weren't going to do much passing. I decided to play it smart and save it for Saturday."
Saturday night's races were rained out before the heat races. This week the team will take off during the Knoxville Nationals as Paul moves back to college. Tentatively, the next race will be August 18th at Wilmot Raceway.
