Inside Line Promotions – PEVELY, Mo. (Aug. 8, 2017) – Brandon Hanks scored his career-best World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series result last Friday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55.
Hanks kicked off the night by qualifying 14th quickest, which was his best-ever qualifying effort with the ‘Greatest Show on Dirt.’
“We got a little lucky going out first,” he said. “We weren’t really that good to start the night.”
Hanks finished seventh in a heat race, which relegated him to the Last Chance Showdown. A third-place result in the consolation race earned a transfer into the 23rd starting position for the main event.
“We were way too tight all night,” he said. “Finally in the feature we had that thing right. I put the wing in the trunk to start because the track had completely slicked over. Everybody was fighting for the bottom on the initial start. I actually went straight to the middle. That’s where I passed most of the cars. It didn’t take about six laps before the bottom took rubber. It was pretty much over then because we all got in line.”
Hanks maneuvered from 23rd to a 16th-place result, which earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.
“It gives me a lot of confidence,” he said. “That place is super fast. It’s probably one of the fastest feeling places I’ve been to. The sensation is unreal. It was a very successful night.”
The Ironman 55, which is the longest World of Outlaws main event of the season, was rained out on Saturday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55.
