Inside Line Promotions – BILLINGS, Mont. (Aug. 29, 2017) – Jason Sides capped last weekend’s World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader with a top-10 finish during the Big Sky Brawl at Billings, which was the first World of Outlaws event at BMP Speedway in nine years.
Sides opened the night by qualifying seventh quickest before he finished third in a heat race. That missed a spot in the dash by only one position and lined him up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.
“To be in the middle of nowhere and with how dusty and dry it is out there they got the track pretty nice,” he said. “I lost a spot or two on the initial start. I think the top carried more speed getting in. Once we got going I got a spot or two back. Then on a restart we got stacked up and into the back of Logan Schuchart I think. That knocked the nose wing back and several guys got by.”
Sides dropped outside the top 10 before rallying for a 10th-place finish, which was his 22nd top 10 of the season.
The weekend began on Friday at Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, S.D., for the Rushmore Outlaw Showdown. Sides timed in 10th quickest during qualifying before advancing from fourth to third place in a heat race. That started him seventh in the A Main.
“It started off pretty good,” he said. “Sometimes I think the car is good and I don’t make a lot of changes. We didn’t tighten up enough. When that track started getting slick it got really slick. On one restart we went back from about eighth to 12th or 14th. It was a big cluster and I got really loose. We should have tightened it up more and that cost us.”
Sides faded to a 17th-place finish.
He is venturing to Washington this weekend for a trio of races with the World of Outlaws. He’ll compete on Friday and Saturday at Skagit Speedway in Alger for the Outlaw Energy Showdown before heading to Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma on Monday.
“It’s always good to get back out here,” he said. “Some of these tracks we only get to come to once a year. It’s always fun to come out this way and see the fans and local racers.”
