Scelzi Qualifies Well and Earns Best-Ever World of Outlaws Result at Calistoga

Inside Line Promotions – CALISTOGA, Calif. (Sept. 18, 2017) – The biggest thing Dominic Scelzi will take away from the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown last weekend at Calistoga Speedway was his consistent qualifying effort.

Scelzi and his Roth Motorsports backed, family owned team qualified in the top eight both nights to give them four straight World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series races with a top-10 qualifying time.

“It was cool to time in well at a half mile,” he said. “The thing we’ll take the most from the weekend is that we had a good qualifying effort both nights. It’s very important. I think we’ve raced very well on quarter miles to 3/8-mile tracks. We don’t race on half miles like Calistoga very often and I think we’ve shown improvement there as well.”

Scelzi kicked off the weekend on Friday when he qualified eighth quickest. He then placed fifth in a heat race before closing the night with a 17th-place result in the main event. Here is a link to watch the race: https://youtu.be/P-buzUmpCVY.

“It seemed like whatever move I made was the wrong move,” he said. “It was a struggle, but it’s important to learn from those nights and make adjustments. I think we did that for Saturday.”

Scelzi improved his result every time he was on the track on Saturday beginning with qualifying when he timed in fifth quickest. Scelzi then ended third in a heat race to miss the dash by only one position. That lined him up on the outside of the fourth row for the A Main.

“We ran around 10th for a little bit,” he said. “We had a restart about halfway through. I didn’t get a great start and the guy behind me was by me before we went green. That put me in the middle and moved me back a few spots.”

“We didn’t get the feature finishes we wanted either night, but I’m happy with our qualifying and with what we learned during the weekend,” he said. “It will help us moving forward.”

Scelzi will return to action this Friday and Saturday at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif.
