Inside Line Promotions – MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 2, 2017) – Jason Sides produced a top-10 finish last weekend during one of sprint car racing’s biggest events of the season.

It was a great end to a solid weekend at Williams Grove Speedway, where Sides competed in four World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series A Mains in three nights.

“We had a really good weekend,” he said. “We didn’t capitalize on our starting position, but to come out of the National Open with a top 10 is good.”

The action began on Thursday when Sides qualified third quickest in his group. He then placed third in a heat race to miss a spot in the dash by only one position.

“We started ninth and ran eighth or ninth for most of that race,” he said. “The track started to take some rubber late in the race. On a restart toward the end we were on the outside and we lost a couple of spots.”

Sides ended with a 12th-place result, which he duplicated later that night during the Summer Nationals make-up feature.

“The track had rubbered up so you really wanted to be on the inside,” he said. “Late in that race we had a couple of restarts and we were on the outside. It was similar to the first one. We ran in the top 10 for most of the race before losing spots being out of the rubber at the end.”

The team returned to the half-mile oval on Friday and this time Sides set quick time during his group’s qualifying stage. He then placed third in a heat race to miss a spot in the dash by only one position for the second straight night.

“We got on the track and started ninth in the A Main before we had a bit of a rain delay,” he said. “We put a bigger left rear on that night and we needed a regular tire. The problem was it wouldn’t get down and rotate the bottom. It wanted to push from the middle off. You have to snap it to stay down and then you’re loose after you’re tight.”

Sides battled for a top 10 before ending 14th. He ranked 10th in overall preliminary points heading into Saturday’s finale. After placing second in a heat race Sides earned enough overall points to lock into the dash. An eighth-place result in the dash lined him up eighth for the $50,000-to-win main event.

“We stayed on the bottom the entire time and it laid rubber pretty quick,” he said. “When others were on the top and it was wet, we were in the rubber using the tires. There was a red flag around Lap 28 and we were running eighth. I could see my left rear tire and it was three quarters gone. The guys told me we had a bald right rear. After that I was trying to baby the tire to keep from spinning it. The last 12 laps I was in conserve-mode and I was just trying to finish.”

Sides salvaged a 10th-place result, which was his 24th top 10 of the season.

He will return to competition with the World of Outlaws this Saturday at Fulton Speedway in Fulton, N.Y.
