Oklahoma natives Shane Stewart & Daryn Pittman lead World of Outlaws back to Salina Highbanks Speedway on October 21
SALINA, Okla. — October 3, 2017 — Oklahoma natives Shane Stewart and Daryn Pittman have been two of the winningest drivers over the last month with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. Combined, the pair won six of the 12 races that the series contested between August 25 and September 23. The Oklahomans makes their only visit of the season to their home state next month, on Saturday, October 21 for the Twister Showdown at Salina Highbanks Speedway.
Pittman is the defending winner with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series at Salina, which is less than an hour from Owasso, Okla., where he was born and raised. Pittman, the 2013 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion, picked up his first win of the season at I-55 Raceway in Missouri in early August and followed that up with wins at BMP Speedway in Montana and Skagit Speedway in Washington as part of the series West Coast Swing. Pittman pilots the No. 9 Great Clips car for Kasey Kahne Racing, which is owned by NASCAR veteran Kasey Kahne.
In his career with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series at Salina Highbanks Speedway, Pittman has finished seventh or better in all five of his starts, with four of those being top-five performances.
Stewart, who won at Salina in 2015, has a total of eight wins this season, driving the No. 2 machine for Larson Marks Racing, which is co-owned by NASCAR driver Kyle Larson. Stewart scored his first win of 2017 near the end of May at the famed Williams Grove Speedway in Pennsylvania. He returned to victory lane just a little over a week later at Lawrenceburg Speedway in Indiana, outdueling his car owner, Larson, in one of the most thrilling races of the season.
The native of Bixby, Okla., began a strong summer surge by picking up a pair of wins to wrap up the month of June in Iowa and Wisconsin. He then triumphed in South Dakota as the series headed west. Stewart was victorious in the opener of the West Coast Swing at Skagit Speedway in Washington and followed that up with a victory at Grays Harbor Raceway also in the state of Washington on Labor Day evening. The veteran driver picked up his most recent win in the finale of the historic Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., on Sept. 9.
Pittman and Stewart are currently locked in a tight battle for the fourth spot in the World of Outlaw Craftsman Sprint Car Series standings. Pittman holds the position, with Stewart just 36 markers behind him, with 10 nights of racing remaining this season.
