Brian Brown – Grove Open Closes Great PA Campaign!
Brian Brown and the Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 team closed out a good month in central Pennsylvania with last weekend’s Williams Grove National Open near Mechanicsburg. The Grain Valley, Missouri driver picked up a pair of wins and was strong night in and night out in PA. This Saturday, he plans on running closer to home at Randolph County Raceway near Moberly, Missouri for the $5,000 to win “Outlaw Open”.
You timed in fourth quick in your group to start things Thursday at the Grove.
We started off really well. We had a split field and drew a good number. With the point system the way it was over three days, everything you do is important. Fourth quick set us up pretty good.
That put you on the front row of the heat.
We were actually pretty good. We just couldn’t quite sneak by (leader) Daryn (Pittman). On the white flag lap, they thought Jac Haudenschild was going to stop. He didn’t, but they had thrown the yellow. We had a single-file restart and I made a bad corner. Donny (Schatz) got a run on me and I wasn’t able to hold him off. That was the difference between being in the Dash and starting 11th in the feature.
You had a top ten run.
We ended up ninth. Overall, it was a decent night. We kind of scratched our heads with what could have been after the heat, but we moved on.
Friday didn’t go as well.
We didn’t start off as well on Friday. We were ninth quick in our group and fifth in the heat. We struggled in the feature and couldn’t find our groove. We finished 19th, which left us 13th in points heading into Saturday.
That left you 13th in points overall.
We started third and ran third in the heat. We started 13th in the A and fell back to 17th or 18th. We got back up as high as ninth, but we blew a tire with three to go. It was just worn out with the rubber on the track. It was disappointing not to get a top ten there. Sometimes it goes that way.
You had to rate your trip east as a success!
Overall, it was a great trip to Pennsylvania. To be able to pick up two wins and be in contention to win four or five events that we attended was great. The fans are really awesome. It was a really fun trip, and we’re looking forward to going back and seeing what we can do next year.
