Inside Line Promotions – LAS VEGAS (March 5, 2018) – Dominic Scelzi qualified strong during his season-opening doubleheader last week.

Scelzi laid down top-10 qualifying laps both nights during the FVP Outlaw Showdown at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas, which hosted the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series on Wednesday and Thursday.

“I was pretty happy with it,” he said. “To be able to qualify ninth our first night out was great. That was my best qualifying effort there. Then we improved on that the following night.”

Scelzi’s ninth-place qualifying result in his group on Wednesday was followed by a fifth-place finish in a heat race. That locked him and his family owned, Roth Motorsports backed team into the 30-lap main event.

“We made the show from the heat race, which was good,” he said. “In the main event there were times when we were strong. Unfortunately, we had a left rear shock come apart and a right rear tire that went down at the end. That hurt us, but all in all I was happy.”

Scelzi rebounded from the shock problem to maneuver from the back of the pack to a 15th-place finish despite his right rear tire losing air. Here is a link to watch the A Main: https://youtu.be/QIyTn_eh5-8.

The event concluded on Thursday with Scelzi timing in sixth quickest in his group.

“To go out second to last and time in sixth quick, I was ecstatic,” he said. “In the heat race I got a bad start and it cost me. We finished seventh and had to run the Last Chance Showdown, which we led for a bit. Then I started searching around the track and there’s wasn’t anything better so we dropped to third place.”

Scelzi earned a transfer position through the Last Chance Showdown and he made the main event, which he started 23rd.

“It was tough to get going starting that far back,” he said. “You’re stuck in dirty air and around a lot of other cars. The leaders catch you quickly. We went a lap down about 10 laps in and I figured pulling off the track was the smartest decision.”

Scelzi was credited with a 27th-place result.

He is scheduled to compete this Friday and Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., with the World of Outlaws.

“I love racing in Tulare,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of strong runs there. It can be a really tricky track. Hopefully we can put ourselves in a position to be a contender.”
