Inside Line Promotions – STOCKTON, Calif. (March 19, 2018) – Sides Motorsports captured its first top-five finish of the season last Saturday during the FVP Platinum Battery Western Spring Shootout at Stockton Dirt Track.

Tim Kaeding rallied from 13th to earn a fifth-place result on a rough track that had been hammered with rain, which forced Friday’s World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series opener to be rained out.

“With all the rain they’ve had it was wet on Saturday,” Jason Sides said. “We didn’t qualify as well as I wanted to. Then Tim and I were in the same heat. He got going pretty good. Giovanni (Scelzi) and Paul (McMahan) were duking it out in front of me and I thought maybe I could get by them both. The track was a little narrow so there wasn’t a whole lot of passing and we never had an opportunity.”

Kaeding timed in 11th quickest and Sides was 13th quickest in their group before Kaeding placed fourth in a heat race and Sides seventh. That locked Kaeding into the 13th starting position for the A Main, while Sides was relegated to the Last Chance Showdown.

“I thought we had a good shot at transferring,” Sides said. “It was one of those things where the track was slick coming off and on the start someone got sideways and came across. It slowed our momentum and I don’t think we had a caution. We were getting to traffic and I felt like I could have raced for that final transfer position, but we ran out of laps.”

Sides ended fifth in the consolation race to miss a transfer by only one position.

Meanwhile, Kaeding was on a mission in the main event. He hustled into the top five by maneuvering around the holes on the tricky track.

“He was good on the bottom,” Sides said. “He could run in there and get underneath guys. There was a big hole in turn one where you had to go above it or below it. Some guys would go in high and get to the middle of the corner and get really tight. He worked by them that way. He actually made some passes around the top of guys in turns one and two on restarts, too.”

Both Sides and Kaeding will be in action for Sides Motorsports this Friday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., for the Ocean Outlaw Showdown and Saturday at Bakersfield Speedway in Bakersfield, Calif., with the World of Outlaws.
