Sides Scores Best Finish of the Season With World of Outlaws During Spring Classic

Inside Line Promotions – PEVELY, Mo. (April 23, 2018) – Jason Sides recorded his best result of the season on Saturday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 during the Spring Classic.

The night began with Sides setting quick time during World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series qualifying for the first time this season. He then won a heat race from the pole position to earn a spot into the dash.

“It started off like it’s supposed to,” he said. “We had a good run to get qualified. That puts you in a position to win the heat and get in the dash. Then we drew the wrong position in the dash.”

Sides pulled the second-highest number – seven – during the dash redraw, which lined him up on the inside of the fourth row for the dash. He advanced two positions to place fifth.

Sides ran fifth for the first part of the main event before he passed Donny Schatz for fourth place exiting turn two. Unfortunately, a caution came out before the lap was completed. Soon after restarting the race the track took rubber and passing was at a premium.

“One time I ran in on the guy in front of me and he checked up more than I anticipated, which got me tight,” he said. “I pushed out of the rubber and someone got by me for fifth. We ran sixth the rest of the race.

“I wanted a top five, which would be like a win for us right now. We just missed it by one spot. But sixth for the track and everything that happened was good. It was new dirt and they weren’t sure what it was going to do. With that many cars it put a toll on it.”

The sixth-place result was Sides’s best finish of the season and was a step forward after how the weekend began the previous night at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. Sides qualified 21st quickest before he ended fifth in a heat race to lock into the 17th starting position for the A Main.

“That place got so slick and was up against the wall in qualifying,” he said. “I was trying to be a little conservative and we didn’t get as good of a qualifying lap as we needed. Qualifying is what sets your night up and is so important. We made it through the heat. Then the feature was pretty good. There was a lot of racing going on.”

Sides rallied from 17th to a 12th-place result.

Sunday’s race at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind., rained out.

This week features action on Wednesday at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas, and on Friday and Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the Texas Outlaw Nationals.
