Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 6, 2018) – Brian Brown captured his first feature victory of the season on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway, where his team hit the reset button.

“It’s May so you really want to have won by now,” he said. “We’ve had good car speed all year long, but we don’t have the results to show how fast we’ve been. On Saturday my crew chief, Chad Morgan, said, ‘Let’s hit the reset button and act like this is Race 1.’ We went into Knoxville with the mindset this was the first race of the year. It was exactly what the doctor ordered.”

Brown was fast throughout his season debut at the half-mile oval, where he ranks seventh in career 410ci and 360ci winged sprint car wins. He qualified second quickest before powering from sixth to second place in a heat race. That made him the high-points driver and lined him up on the outside of the second row for the 20-lap A Main following a four-car inversion.

“Traveling as much as we have this year against the level of competition we’ve raced you can get beat down confidence-wise and you can get thinking outside the box,” he said. “We’ve been racing at Knoxville so long we know what works. It takes the thinking of the car piece out of it. We just have to do what we have every single year. Our engines are so strong with Charlie Garrett Engines it takes care of itself.

“With Justin Henderson on the pole, Terry McCarl starting second and Davey Heskin third we knew we had our work cut out for us to win. We got a good start and drove right into second. We knew we had to be aggressive when we got to traffic. We were able to sneak by and lead the rest of the way.”

Brown took the lead on Lap 8 en route to his 38th career 410 feature win at Knoxville Raceway. The victory also gives Brown at least one triumph each season since 2000 when he made his sprint car debut.

“It’s good to get Casey’s General Stores, FVP and all of our partners to Victory Lane,” he said. “They stick with us whether we’re 18th with the Outlaws or winning races.”

Last weekend began on Friday at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., where Brown qualified 19th quickest after being the last driver out. He was unable to finish a heat race because of a mechanical problem, but rebounded to win the Last Chance Showdown to earn a spot in the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series A Main.

“We drew the last pill and the track slowed down quite a bit for qualifying,” he said. “Then we hurt an engine in a heat race. We got that changed before winning the LCS. We were stuck in the back of the main and I got myself spun around on one of the yellows, which was my fault. It wasn’t the result we were hoping for, but if you qualify bad it’s tough to get caught back up throughout the night. Especially when you have to change an engine midway through the night.”

Brown didn’t finish the main event and he was credited with an 18th-place result.

The team has a trio of races on tap this weekend beginning on Thursday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com. Brown will tackle the Great Lakes Shootout presented by Tweeter Contracting and Harvey’s Five Star Roofing on Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., before wrapping up the weekend on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.
