Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (Sept. 4, 2018) – Robbie Price had a career night with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series on Labor Day evening at Grays Harbor Raceway.
The native of Cobble Hill, B.C., was the highest finishing “local” driver. He also produced a career-best qualifying effort and earned career-best finishes in a heat race and main event with the Outlaws.
That event capped a three-race swing through the state of Washington for the series with Price racing in all three shows.
In the opener last Friday at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., Price advanced from the eighth starting position to finish fifth in the second heat race to earn a spot into the 30-lap main event. He experienced electrical problems during the main event and pulled off the track. Price was credited with a 23rd-place finish.
The Skagit Speedway finale the following night saw Price run seventh in the third heat race. He then raced his way into the main even through the Last Chance Showdown. In the 40-lap main event, Price again battled electrical gremlins and pulled in early to finish 19th.
“In the feature I didn’t want to race the leader and wear them out so I chose to pull off,” he said. “We chased the problem we had with the magneto the whole weekend and have it figured out now. It was better that we got it figured out sooner rather than later.”
Price took part in a Summer Thunder Sprint Series 360ci sprint car race at Grays Harbor Raceway on Sunday. He finished sixth in a heat race to earn a spot into the main event. Unfortunately, Price had contact with an infield tire, which caused too much damage to continue.
“We struggled that whole night,” he shared. “We went out last for qualifying and the track went away so that didn’t help. In the heat race, I couldn’t improve my situation any because of the qualifying effort. We changed a lot on the car for the feature and were better, but unfortunately I clipped an infield tire and that ended the night.”
Back in action with the World of Outlaws on Labor Day evening at Grays Harbor Raceway, Price qualified 12th. He ran third in a third heat race, which lined him up ninth for the 30-lap main event. Price held his own in the feature, finishing on the lead lap in the 14th position.
“We were really good the whole night,” he said. “That was the best I’ve ever qualified with them. I usually struggle qualifying so 12th was really good for me. The heat race I was able to pass a few cars and move up. We started ninth in the feature and I missed the bottom on the first lap so that cost me a few spots. It took me a few laps to get going and then we were rolling really good. It felt really good to have a run like that.”
This week Price will continue the West Coast Swing with the World of Outlaws at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., on Wednesday and as long as everything goes as planned, he is tentatively scheduled to compete in the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., on Friday and Saturday.
“Having a good run at Elma, where I normally struggled, helped my confidence a lot,” Price said. “We run pretty good typically at Willamette (Speedway) so I feel good headed there and have some confidence.”
