Sides Motorsports Nets Pair of Podiums During Gold Cup Race of Champions

Inside Line Promotions – CHICO, Calif. (Sept. 10, 2018) – Sides Motorsports picked up a pair of podium finishes last weekend at Silver Dollar Speedway, where Tim Kaeding finished second both nights during the Gold Cup Race of Champions.
Kaeding qualified second quickest before he won both a heat race and the dash to open the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series action at the quarter-mile oval on Friday. He competed for the top spot early and took the lead on Lap 9, leading eight laps before earning the second-place finish.
“Tim’s cars were pretty good the whole time,” Sides Motorsports Owner Jason Sides said. “He had an opportunity to win it. Brad (Sweet) was really good on the bottom and Tim couldn’t hold the bottom anymore.
“Tim missed the dash, but he got up through there the second night. He got to racing with Shane (Stewart) for a couple of laps back and forth. Once he got free he ran out of laps.”
Kaeding capped the weekend by qualifying fifth quickest, placing third in a heat race and maneuvering from ninth to second place in the A Main on Saturday.
Sides also raced during the doubleheader, showcasing a lot of improvement from Friday to Saturday night.
“Either night we didn’t qualify very well,” he said. “I’m not going up there with a curb like that. We changed some stuff and got it laying left on Saturday. We got more comfortable with the car. It felt really good in the C Main and it felt good enough in the B Main that we could take a provisional. The results didn’t show as well as we ran because we went down a lap and passed some guys who didn’t, but we were more competitive than the first night.”
Sides ended the weekend by advancing from 27th to 20th in the A Main.
A trio of World of Outlaws shows are on tap this week with races on Wednesday at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif., for the 49er Gold Rush Classic presented by Riebes NAPA and Friday and Saturday at Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, Calif., for the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown.
“We’re going into Placerville with a two-car team again with Tim racing for us,” Sides said. “We’ve been good there before. We ran third there a couple of weeks ago. Even though it’s a small track it’s not choppy and rough like Chico. Tim just ran second a couple of nights in a row and we’ve run well at Placerville so hopefully one of us can contend for the win.”
