Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (Sept. 11, 2018) – Trey Starks competed on both sides of the country last week.

Starks kicked off the action on Wednesday when he piloted a sprint car for Wheatley Motorsports during a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series show at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore.

“We didn’t draw the best pill and didn’t have the best lap in qualifying,” he said. “The combination didn’t play out well because we had to start at the back of the heat and at the back of the feature. Against the Outlaws you don’t just drive by those guys.”

Starks qualified 19th quickest, placed seventh in a heat race and ended the night 19th in the main event.

He then returned to the Gobrecht Motorsports No. 44 on Friday at Port Royal Speedway during the opening night of the famed Tuscarora 50. Starks qualified fourth quickest in his group to kick off the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions show. He then placed second in both a heat race and a dash to line up on the outside of the second row for the A Main.

“We had a really good qualifying lap and a decent heat to put us in the dash,” he said. “We ran decent in the dash to put us into a great spot for the main event. We got a good start and jumped up to third. I felt like we had a really competitive car, but I felt a vibration coming out of turn two and shut it down.”

Starks had driven into third place on the opening lap before a mechanical problem ended his night early.

“It’s disappointing,” he said. “There are some things that happen in racing that are out of your control. We have to look at the night like we were fast and did everything we had to do. We just didn’t have luck in the main event. The good part was that we had a really fast car.”

Starks showcased the speed the following night by setting quick time overall out of more than 50 drivers.

“That was pretty cool for us, especially being two different track surfaces,” he said. “The night before it rained and the track was really fast when we timed well. The track for Saturday was the slickest it’s been in qualifying at Port Royal.”

Unfortunately, the night was rained out during the heat races and Sunday’s attempt was also cancelled because of rain. The Tuscarora 50 has been moved to late October and will start from scratch.

Starks and Gobrecht Motorsports are scheduled to compete this Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa., with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions.
