Wilson Excited for Opportunity at Placerville During 49er Gold Rush Classic

Inside Line Promotions – CHICO, Calif. (Sept. 12, 2018) – One of Greg Wilson’s favorite tracks on the West Coast is on tap as the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series visits Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif., on Wednesday for the 49er Gold Rush Classic presented by Riebes NAPA.

“I enjoy racing at Placerville,” he said. “It’s a smaller track that can race really well. It can get slick and produce really fun action. It reminds me somewhat of how you can race at a lot of Ohio tracks where I grew up.”

Wilson and his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Alloy Wheels backed team finished fourth at the quarter-mile oval last year and he was sixth in 2016.

This weekend will conclude with races on Friday and Saturday at Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, Calif., for the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown.

Wilson competed in a trio of World of Outlaws shows during the last week. He raced at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., on Wednesday when he qualified 13th quickest, advanced from fifth to fourth place in a heat race and came up just inches short of a top-10 result in the main event.

“We ran between eighth and 10th the entire race and then on the last lap someone got a run and just nipped us at the finish line,” he said. “Track position was critical all night so it was tough to move forward much.”

The team then headed to Silver Dollar Speedway for the Gold Cup Race of Champions on Friday and Saturday.

“The track was pretty choppy and rough up top, which is where most of the speed was,” he said. “There was a fine line between going fast and wrecking or sliding off the track. Those type of tracks aren’t our forte so we took what we could get and tried to build our notebook for when we race there in the future.”
