Inside Line Promotions – TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 19, 2019) – Mason Daniel returns to World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series competition this weekend as he is heading to Texas.

The team is scheduled to race on Friday at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige and on Saturday at LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore during the East Texas LoneStar Shootout. It will mark his debut at both tracks.

“I want to learn more and progress in 410 racing,” he said. “I’m glad that’s our focus this year. Going forward the majority of our races will be in the 410 division. I’ve never raced in Texas so I get to add another state and it’ll be great to race on two new tracks.”

Daniel made his 360ci winged sprint car season debut last weekend at East Bay Raceway Park, which hosted the Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s.

“I think the last two nights we got the car figured out and showed speed, but I made too many mistakes,” he said. “I was struggling on that track. It’s really unlike anything I’ve experienced. The car will not drive straight out of the corner like at any other track. You have to keep the car sideways down the straightaway so you can make your arc into the corner. When it gets slicked off it’s really hard to make your car hook up. You put it in your memory bank and the next time you go back try to improve.”

The opening night started strong for Daniel, who powered from fourth to second place in a heat race to rank 10th out of 52 drivers. That lined him up on the outside of the fifth row for the 25-lap main event.

“We had some good battles with some guys,” he said. “We had a yellow come out and after that I made a couple of mistakes. We got shuffled back and I missed my marks and that’s what caused us to finish 12th. That’s something to remember and improve on next time.”

Daniel gained two positions in a heat race to finish fourth on Friday. That put him on the pole of a B Main, which he won to transfer into the rear of the A Main. He picked up a trio of spots in the race to place 18th.

“By the time you get to the flag stand off the green the leaders are halfway down the back straightaway,” he said. “We just didn’t pass enough cars in the heat to set ourselves up. It’s tough that far back being in dirty air with a lot of guys in front of you. It was a great learning night.”

The weekend concluded on Saturday. A second-place run in a heat race locked him into the 12th starting position for the 40-lap main event.

“We had a run where we were going forward and a yellow happened,” he said. “I got stuck on the bottom trying to get by a car in front of me. I got stuck in that sandy stuff and I got freight trained on the top. On a positive note when (leader) Mark Smith got by us we kept with him. The car is fast enough. The guys put a lot of hard work into it. These tracks in Florida are unlike anything I’ve ever seen so it’s been a good learning experience.”

Daniel posted a 13th-place result.
