Inside Line Promotions – WEEDSPORT, N.Y. (May 20, 2019) – Jason Sides starts a busy holiday week this Tuesday at Bridgeport Speedway, where the World of Outlaw NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series will make its first visit since 2003.
Sides competed during that event 16 years ago, placing 16th after coming out of the Last Chance Showdown on the 5/8-mile oval in Swedesboro, N.J. It has been shortened to a 3/8-mile track.
“It’s been quite a few years since we’ve been there and they’ve changed the track since then so it’s like we’re going to a new track,” he said. “Hopefully we can lay down a good qualifying lap to start on the right foot.”
Sides will then head south to The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., to tackle the Patriot Nationals on Friday and Saturday. He earned a career-best runner-up result at there in 2013. He also placed second at the oval in 2009 and he has five top fives and 15 top 10s there dating back to 2007.
“It’s a confidence booster rolling into a track where you’ve been successful and have competed for wins,” he said. “It’s nice to have a two-day show at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in the spring, too.”
The week concludes next Monday at Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, Ind., for the Memorial Day Spectacle presented by KOI Auto Parts. His most recent top 10 at Lawrenceburg Speedway came in 2012 when Sides rallied from 17th to 10th in the main event.
Sides is coming off a week in Central Pennsylvania where qualifying put him behind the eight ball on Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown during the Gettysburg Clash presented by Drydene and on Friday and Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg during the Morgan Cup.
“Qualifying is important at every race, but it’s pretty much make or break when you’re racing in Central Pennsylvania,” he said. “The competition is so good and deep that it doesn’t usually allow for you to charge through the field so you need to lay down good qualifying laps. We didn’t do that and it buried us.”
Sunday’s race at Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y., rained out.
